Transformable Boundaries
Poás proposes a domestic architecture that engages directly with the mountainous and forested landscape of Poás in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The house is defined by a simple and restrained volumetric composition, where formal clarity allows the surrounding environment to become the main protagonist.
Adaptive Envelope
Rather than imposing itself on the site, the architecture acts as a framework that enhances the experience of the forest and the broader landscape.
A key element of the project is a system of folding panels that enables the house to transform its relationship with the exterior. When opened, these panels allow the interior spaces to expand completely toward the landscape, creating a seamless continuity between the house and the surrounding forest. When closed, the panels provide a protective layer that shelters the interior from the humid and constantly changing mountain climate.
The material palette relies primarily on wood and concrete, establishing a balance between warmth and structural permanence. Wood introduces texture and a sense of intimacy, while concrete provides solidity and durability.
The result is a house that evokes the atmosphere of a contemporary cabin immersed in the forest, where architecture becomes a refuge that balances openness, protection, and a deep connection with nature.
